Program notes:

Object permanence, most commonly studied in developmental psychology, refers to the understanding that objects continue to exist even when they can no longer be seen or otherwise sensed. Emotional impermanence, therefore, is the sensation of worrying that a person’s emotions or opinions have changed now you are no longer in their company. While the text is written in first person, the content is inspired both by observation and experience. The ostinato that grows at the end of the work, piece by piece deteriorates to reveal a hidden message: a musical translation of the way that thoughts can sometimes mutate into entirely new meanings when they circle our heads for long enough.
